While browsing the Slickdeals.net forums today, I found people giving everything from Starbucks coffee to beer to free laser tattoo removal service to anyone who votes on Tuesday.

But my question is: Does this really entice people to vote? Or does it just entice people to say they voted?

I know some people will do all kinds of strange things for free anything, but none of these things seem to be that much of a motivator to me. I mean, sure, if I drank coffee or beer or had any tattoos and I happened to vote, I would probably take advantage of one or more of these freebies. But I just don't see hordes of people going out to vote so they can save a few (or more) dollars on a free drink and de-inking.

And I'm not sure I want the kind of people who vote just to get tchotchkes to be voting.
