- Where personal finance and personal freedom collide

"Until and unless you discover that money is the root of all good, you ask for your own destruction. When money ceases to be the tool by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of men. Blood, whips and guns – or dollars. Take your choice – there is no other – and your time is running out." — Francisco d'Anconia's speech about money in Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

January 2009 debt update

curtis — 22 January 2009 - 12:42pm

Well, it's the new year and I'm already late with my first debt update. Hopefully that's not the trend-setter for all my goals this year!

Anyway, here's this month's chart:

Jan. 2009 debt update

So, the obvious piece is the second monthly increase in CC debt for the second month in a row. There are two reasons for this: Christmas presents and the purchase of a new 40" LCD TV. I paid off the Christmas gifts a couple days ago, and will pay the TV off before it's due (I put it on a card that had just passed the cut-off date, so I've got about 45 days before I have to pay it off completely).

To be honest, the last couple months of having high credit card balances has put me in a little bit of a cash flow problem. I'm not in real trouble, just will need to focus the next couple months on keeping overall costs down.

In other debt news, my student loan payment didn't post on my December statement – not sure why, as I double checked and I definitely made the payment. I'll have to follow up on that. House and car loans continue their steady progress.
